“LIFE-Nature” – What is it?

The conservation of biodiversity is an important goal of the European Union. To this end, the EU has designated a European network of protected areas, referred to as 2000 Natura. Consisting of SPA (Special Protected Areas for wild bird sanctuaries) and SAC (Special Areas of Conservation) areas, it lays the foundation for a pan-European ecological habitat network.
Many of these areas need specific care and development to ensure that their environmental quality can be secured and improved. In order to assist Member States in this respect, the EU brought the European "LIFE-Nature" program to life.
